Pipavav Shipyard Limited now known as “Pipavav Defence and Offshore Engineering Company Limited” located in Pipavav, Gujarat, is one of the largest in India, spread over 500 acres (2.0 km2).[4] It has access to over 720 meters of exclusive waterfront.

The dry dock was built by Mumbai based infrastructure firm, AFCONS Infrastructure Limited, under a contract worth Rs 3.3 billion (US$65.84 million). It can accommodate ships of up to 400,000 DWT.

Newkem worked along in unison with Mangesh Engineering to deliver 8 Steel Pre Engineered Building (PEB) Sheds for fabricating ship and marine platforms. The PEB Sheds were manufactured by Kirby Building Systems. Newkem was responsible for the Erection of the Main Frame Steel Structures, Roof Sheeting and Wall cladding.

A Challenge on the project was the 125m wide, 340m long and 42m high PEB Structure which had no internal columns. This is the widest Rigid Frame PEB constructed and erected in India. The steel structures were painted with epoxy coatings by airless spray technology for long term corrosion protection.The work commenced in February and the area of the project tonnage was completed before the onset of the Cyclonic Rains.
