Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL) is an oil refinery located at Katipalla, north from centre of Mangalore city. MRPL has a design capacity to process 9.69 million metric tonnes per annum and is the only refinery in India to have two hydrocrackers producing premium diesel (high cetane) and two CCRs producing unleaded petrol of high octane.

Newkem provided its services of Hydrocarbon Fire Protection to Toyo Engineering (EPC Contractor)in the CDU-VDU unit of the project . The Vermiculite Cement based M-II system was used on this project to provide the required 2 hour hydrocarbon fire protection. The system complied with the requirements specified by UHDE-India Ltd , Consultants for the project and Oil Industry Safety Dictorate – OISD Standard 164. The system was used to protect various structures, equipments and vessels in the project from collapse and damage in case of a hydrocarbon fire. The M-II system is tested to the internationally approved UL-1709 standard and BS 476 Part 20 Appendix D.

Newkem also provided systems for Hot as well as Cold Insulation to the pipelines and vessels on the project.The insulation services were provided to Larsen and Toubro, a EPC Contractor Isomerization Unit on the project. Newkem successfully delivered its services ensuring compliance with Standards, Specification and Safety Norms.

Currently MRPL are replacing the existing conventional concrete fire proofing with ISOLATEK M-II / TG system.
