The ICICI Office Building Located at the BandraKurla Complex was the first commercial Office Building to be built completely using structural steel. Raja Aedri was the lead architect on the project while Mr Kamal Hadkar – Sterling Consultants was the structural Consulant. The structure was fabricated and erected by Larsen and Toubro.

With the onset of Steel into the Commercial Building Industry Newkem was consulted to help design the Passive Fire Protection system to protect the Steel Structure in a Fire. Newkem worked along with the Client, Architect , Contractor and the Local Governing Bodies to determine the Fire Rating as well as the appropriate system to be applied to the structure. The entire job had a surface area of 26,000 sq m.

A combination of systems comprising of Vermiculite Cement- CP2 and water based Intumescent Paints were approved and applied by Newkem on the project. The beams of the two Office Buildings were fire rated for 3 hours using the CP2 – Vermiculite Cement based system and the bridge/conference room joining the two buildings was protected for 1 hour using the water based intumescent system.
