Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), a state-owned oil and gas company, established OPaL in 2006 as a special purpose vehicle for the construction of the Dahej Petrochemical Complex. Construction of the petrochemical complex was started in 2009 and is scheduled for completion in 2013. It will significantly boost the petrochemical sector besides generating about 1,000 permanent and 15,000 direct and indirect jobs. The entire project is estimated to cost Rs195bn ($4.3bn).

Newkem provided the ISOLATEK Type M-II – Hydrocarbon Fire Protection System to the Steel Structures and Vessel Supports for DFCU and AU Project. The M-II System is tested to the UL 1709 – Hydrocarbon Fire Test. The system met the stringent requirements of ONGC as well as Engineers India Limited’s specifications.
